Double glazing grants

Grants for double glazing are not available to the majority of UK households. Some Local Authorities operate schemes for those with low incomes and window scrappage schemes have been talked about in the press. The only option available to all home owners at present is to organise several quotations through a company such as EnergyLink Ltd. This site explains the available options in more detail and provides you with the opportunity to arrange your quotes for windows, doors and conservatories.

Are Grants Available For Double Glazing?

***Grants may be available now under Green Deal ECO scheme. This article will be updated very soon with relevant details.***

Double could be installed for free if you are having ECO funded external wall insulation installed at the same time - more to follow soon.

Some local councils offer grants for Double Glazing but they are typically means-tested. It will be necessary to demonstrate that you live in a low-income household and you may be required to prove that you are in receipt of certain benefits, tax credits or allowances. In some cases you might also have to be above a certain age. If your local council do offer double glazing grants, it is highly likely that there will be a long waiting list.

  • Means tested.
  • Low income / receiving benefits.
  • Could be a minimum age.
  • Very long waiting lists.

Is There A Window Scrappage Scheme?

There has been talk of the UK Government introducing a Window Scrappage Scheme. However, nothing has been confirmed or announced in recent months. A Boiler Scrappage Scheme was launched by the Energy Saving Trust on 5th January 2010 who offered a £400 voucher towards the cost of a new boiler. The scheme proved to be hugely popular with all vouchers being allocated within three months. A window scrappage scheme would most likely operate in a similar way. There are several double glazing companies offering 'window scrappage schemes' but they are simply a marketing tactic to attract customers.
They are not official, government-backed schemes.

  • No official Window Scrappage Schemes exist.
  • Double Glazing companies offer own schemes.
  • May never be introduced in the UK.

The Glass & Glazing Federation petitioned the Government to offer a cash incentive of £1,000 towards the installation of Energy Efficient windows. This petition, which ended on 24th March 2010 contains 4,467 signatures, including representatives of EnergyLink.

Are There Any Other Discounts?

As the few available grants are means-tested with long waiting lists and official window scrappage schemes do not exist, EnergyLink can offer you another way. We can arrange for you to have up to three quotes from reputable and fully vetted companies in your local area. These companies all know that they are in competition against each other which keeps the prices low and can often save you up to 70% off the cost of your double glazing. This service is aimed at all home owners or landlords who are interested in new windows doors and conservatories. Tenants must speak to their landlord and
ask them to apply on their behalf.

  • All home owners can benefit.
  • Up to 70% discount possible.
  • Free, no-obligation quotes.
  • Fully vetted & approved suppliers
  • Competitive finance available.
